I am a motherhood photographer who enjoys capturing images of beautiful moments with families. Adrian contacted me to photograph her 18 month old baby, John Ross. She called me a few days before and asked if we could photograph a generation session. Her mom Shanna, her baby John Ross and herself would be photographed together. They would be able to capture these moments together as a family.
When taking an outdoor session, there is only so much preparing you can do. The wind was whipping their hair and outfits as we tried to make the most of it. It is important to have a backup plan in any case of unpredictable weather. In their case, we photographed what could be taken and after a while the wind died down. I reshot the images that I had in the beginning of the session knowing their hair was winded. I love the look of movement, but I know how important it is to others to have a perfect portrait. If it rains on a day I am photographing, I will have a secondary location that is covered. Photographing in natural light has it’s limitations so it is crucial to always be prepared.
I recommend when photographing any children, it is best to bring a few necessities when planning for a long session. They are: a change of outfit, snacks, toys that they like, and ideas of song they like to sing. Bringing your baby well rested and on a full stomach can play a huge roll in the success of the session outcome. I photographed for well over 2 hours for this session and the baby did wonderfully as we were prepared for all outcomes.
If you have done a photography session, has everything gone according to plan?
