Sharing a personal realization I had just this month after almost 6+ years in the photography business. It started with this statement, “Not everyone loves taking photos.” Now my question to my clients is, do you?
My friend and I were talking about how I could take photos ALL-DAY-LONG! And I’m not just talking about taking photos, but actually being in the photos. My sweet husband, John, always goes along with my photo sessions. He loves me, also he is a #enneagram9 “Peacemaker”, thankful for that! After taking photos for more than half the day with my friend, EVERYONE was over it but me! Have to laugh because I never realized how much I enjoy all aspects of photography, even posing for hours and never getting tired of it.
I always talk about how I do spend a reallyyyyy long time in most of my sessions. I do want to get every pose, location, outfit, etc perfect for my clients. My process tends to take longer than a 30 minute session. Chatting with my clients is my favorite and does tend to add to the time. HA! I don’t want them to feel rushed and I also want to take my time to not get overwhelmed. That being said, my friend reminded me that some people don’t want to take photos for HOURS and don’t enjoy being photographed (hello most men!)
Poof! Mind Blown
MY MIND WAS BLOWN!!! Honestly, I have never even though that people don’t LOVE to take photos like myself. That is completely okay! I can say my friend is better at reading peoples disposition and feelings in the moment. Being aware and reading energies is not my strong suit.
I truly enjoy every moment documenting babies, for hours on end. If you are not the hours-on-end type of photo person, please let me know! I am still learning things about myself, my business, and how best to make my clients happy.
Let me know!
If you ever though, my goodness, ‘Lindsey takes so long to take our photos’, it’s because I love ya, and want to do my best for you! But if hours are not your thing, let me know, promise I get it now! 😉 One of my longest standing clients, Lauren, is exactly like me. She and her girls could spend all. day. long. behind the lens. It makes me laugh every time because I see myself in her when we are changing into the 2nd and 3rd outfits. If you know your littles will only last 45 minutes, that works too. Every family is different and expressing likes and dislikes beforehand will allow me to do the best job.
Funny note, this session had an entirely other portion to it outdoors. My girl Lauren, her loves her photos, you’d know this if you saw her walls in her house!
