What made you want to photograph newborns?
If you didn’t know this about me, I am adopted. When I was young my family became a foster home for newborn babies. I can still remember going to the hospital with my mom to pick them up from their biological parents while the paper work was done to be placed into their permanent homes. I loved those first weeks we spent with so many special babies. I think this was the very beginning for my love of the newborn stage. Once while in high school, I made a wrap ( similar to the Beaufort Bonnet ones they have now) and took newborn photos for the adopting family. They made it their birth announcement. I was so proud. Little did I know at 14 that my job would be doing just that years later!
Do you have a studio?
Yes! You are welcome to have your session in my in-home studio located in Crowley, Louisiana. I have everything you will need already set up for baby and parent portraits.
Will you come to our house for the session?
Yes! I still also photograph in the home of the newborn's family. Photographs are typically done indoors in a room that has lots of natural light coming through the windows. A few outdoor photographs if the client requests.
Did you have training for this type of session?
Yes! I have attended the newborn Blossom Workshops in Tulsa, OK, I take classes all year round on Creative Live, and I travel to Las Vegas every February for the WPPI conference for classes and training. I have also been mentored by Miranda North Photography, one of the leading motherhood photographers in the United States. It is important to hire a professional to make sure newborn safety is the number one priority during a session.
What should I do while you are posing the baby?
Relax! Take some time to watch TV or catch up on some ZzZ’s. You are always welcome to stay in the room and watch, however please dress accordingly as it gets hot. Newborn photography is revolved around the newborns schedule, so these delicate sessions are relaxed and not rushed. Your bundle is in great care, please feel free to ask me any other questions you may have.
