I have been pondering over which images to use for my in-progress website. As a photographer it is important to show the style of work that you want to photograph. I took this newborn session in 2015 and then I shot the baby sister in 2017. I love a heirloom session that I can reflect on years later and it still resinates with me. It is important that I convey why this session remained so timeless and speaks to my photography brand:
1. It was shot with heirlooms and props such as crochet booties and a vintage custom embroidered day gown.
2. The nursery was filled with details to photograph, such as silver cups, vintage baby books, and keepsakes all around.
3. It was photographed in a white room with a large window. Even the Pottery Barn crib bedding was white, which gave beautiful reflective light in the nursery.
All of the things listed above made the session a classic. It is hard to achieve my style in every home as many do not have ample lighting and white walls which are painted Extra White by Sherwin Williams. This is the main reason I created my in-home studio in Crowley, Louisiana. If you have questions about booking your own newborn session, don’t hesitate to contact me.
- A note to photographers, is that it is crucial to keep your RAW images if you really love a session. I edited this session years ago, but I had the files to go back and re-edit them to my current style. I am currently using a custom preset in Lightroom that I have tweaked for so many years.
- My advice to those who are just starting their business is to be authentic to who you are as a person and as a brand. It is hard to find your own voice when there is so much influence with access to the internet. Reach deep inside and only put out what is authentically you!
